Hudson Valley Renegades Pitch for Kids Fund 2007 Grant Recipients

FISHKILL, NEW YORK (July 27, 2007) – The Hudson Valley Renegades Pitch for Kids Fund is pleased to announce the 2007 recipients of its annual grant program. Thirteen organizations from four different counties met the grant criteria and will receive $3000 in support of their programs.

 

The 2007 Recipients:

 

Kingston Boys & Girls Club, Inc. (Kingston, NY) – Will use the grant in support of their new teen center. They will be purchasing computers so that teens may use them to assist with homework and becoming computer literate.


New York Blood Center (Elmsford, NY) – Will use the grant in support of their Little Doctors Program. This program is designed for 5th – 8th graders to have them help run blood drives at their schools. The grant will help to expand the program to more Hudson Valley School. Each of the schools that participate requires educational materials, scrubs for the students to wear while volunteering, etc.


American Heart Association (Poughkeepsie, NY)
Will use the grant in support of their special appeal to end childhood obesity. A local initiative will be chosen which will develop innovative approaches to encourage more healthy food options and increase physical activity during and after school.


Wappingers Little League (Wappingers Falls, NY) – Will use the grant in support of the Challenger Division. A special field is being designed for handicapped children. The monies from this grant will be used to supply scholarships to any handicapped children who cannot afford the registration fees.


Anderson Center for Autism (Staatsburg, NY)
Will use the grant in support of their therapeutic recreation program which helps to teach kids with autism how to interact better with their parents, siblings, & peers. The monies will be used to purchase “play books.” These books help the student focus and learn how to play a particular game or with a specific toy using visual models.


Adaptive Sports Foundation (Windham, NY) – Will use the grant in support of their summer program. Their summer program offers sports and recreational activities for disabled individuals and their families. The grant monies will be used to purchase newer and safer sports equipment.


Jewish Women International, Hudson Valley Chapter (Hopewell Junction, NY)
Will use the grant in support of the Backpack Project. The JWI purchase 200 backpacks and school supplies for children of all ages who are living in temporary housing, homeless shelters, and domestic abuse centers in Dutchess County.


GiantKids (Mahopac, NY) – Will use the grant to purchase Bravery Bears for their courage award program. The primary mission of GiantKids is to recognize the heroics of children facing life-threatening diseases together with their siblings and caregivers through various award programs during and following medical treatments. The programs seek to lift the spirits of these incredibly courageous children and their families by providing them with tangible testament and source of strength during their grueling treatments and follow-on care. The Bravery Bears are specifically targeted to younger patients ages 1-5. They bears wear the GiantKids Courage Medal and because it is a stuffed toy, the younger patients find it more meaningful.


Occupations, Inc. (Middletown, NY) -
Will use the grant money to fund their Start Smart for Education Program. The program is used to provide children in their child welfare programs the school supplies they will need for the upcoming school year. This grant will help over 100 kids in Orange County start their school year with the supplies they need.


Bishop Dunn Memorial School (Newburgh, NY) -
Will use the grant money to purchase a laptop, and interactive Whiteboard and a digital camera. These products will help enhance technology and learning for teachers and students.


Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (White Plains, NY)- Will use the grant money for children affected by Cystic Fibrosis to have a night away from their illness by coming our to a Hudson Valley Renegades game and enjoy baseball, hotdogs, T-Shirts and hats, all at no cost to their families.


Saint Francis Health Care Foundation (Poughkeepsie, NY) - Will use the grant to help provide materials to be used in their Preschool Program at the new Panichi Family Center for Communication and Learning. Children in the program are treated for a number of diagnoses including: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, etc.


Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum (Poughkeepsie, NY) – Will use the grant money as part of their Celebrity Waiter Event. This event helps to raise money for the Museum. The Museum is a place for children and families to come and explore 2 floors of art, history, science, etc.

 


The Renegades Pitch for Kids Fund was created to give back to the community that has given us so much, specifically the children and families of the Hudson Valley. With annual fundraising events, memorabilia auctions, and in-stadium raffles, Pitch for Kids has awarded over $175,000 the past five years. The events have provided businesses and residents of the Hudson Valley the chance to have fun and come together to help better their community.
