Pitch for Kids Fund Holds

First Board Meeting of 2009 Season

Fishkill, N.Y. (March 19, 2009) – The Renegades Pitch for Kids (PFK) Fund, the Special Events arm of the Hudson Valley Renegades, recently held its annual meeting of the Board of Directors. The volunteer board is comprised of 40 community members from businesses throughout the Hudson Valley.

The annual meeting is the official kick-off of the PFK‘s season of special events. Board members, along with PFK and Renegades staff, establish fundraising goals for the year, finalize the schedule of events, develop promotional strategies, and recruit volunteers to serve as event chairs and support for the year’s activities.

Highlights of 2009 fundraising activities include, the Jail Break for Home 5K run, now in its 7th  year, two golf outings, a home run Derby, kickball tournament, four summer youth baseball camps, and bowl-a-thon, to name a few. To date, there are more than 20 special events on the PFK Fund calendar. A complete calendar of events, along with registration information and details, is available on the PFK Fund website www.pitchforkids.org.

“Our schedule of fundraising events is intense,” said Rick Zolzer, Executive Director of the PFK Fund. “Thanks to a dedicated staff and motivated and involved board members, we are able to be very successful with our special events each year. That has translated into more than $500,000 in funds granted to local organizations supporting children and families,” Zolzer continued. “Being able to do that makes the non-stop action all worthwhile.”

“Being a part of the PFK Fund board makes me feel like I can make a difference,” said Craig Wallace, long time board member and attorney at Wallace & Wallace, LLP. “It’s more than just fundraising and recruiting sponsors, the PFK events allow businesses and residents of the Hudson Valley the opportunity to come together to help better their community – and have fun doing it.”

In 2008, the PFK awarded grants to The Children’s Museum of Poughkeepsie, Hudson Valley Civic Center, St. Basil’s Academy and St. Francis Healthcare Foundation to name a few. The funds are managed through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County.

Founded in 1995, the Hudson Valley Renegades’ Pitch for Kids Fund is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for children and families in the Hudson Valley by supporting organizations whose programs make a positive change in youth, their families, and the community.  The Fund was created by the team owners in order to give back to the community that has shown them such great support and dedication.
